Hello QCC community!
This week, we're focusing on a health condition that affects millions worldwide: diabetes. While it's a common term, not everyone fully understands what it entails. So, let's demystify diabetes together:
1. Diabetes 101: Simply put, diabetes is a chronic condition that affects how your body turns food into energy. The pancreas produces insulin to regulate this process. In diabetes, either the pancreas isn't producing enough insulin, or the body isn't using insulin effectively, leading to high blood sugar levels.
2. Types of Diabetes: There are primarily two types, Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed early in life and is not preventable. In Type 2, lifestyle factors play a significant role and it often can be prevented or delayed with healthy lifestyle changes.
3. The Warning Signs: Common symptoms include excessive thirst, frequent urination, unexplained weight loss, and fatigue. If you're experiencing these symptoms, it's crucial to consult with a healthcare provider.
4. Managing Diabetes: While it's a lifelong condition, diabetes can be managed with a combination of diet, exercise, medication, and regular check-ups.
